DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I MISS YOU?
by Arthur W. Siebens, Ph.D. , Copyright 1999
for William Allen Barwick, Ph.D. in recognition of 33 years of dedicated
service to the D.C. Public Schools
Went into teaching with a mission
To spread the word 'bout the coolest stuff I knew
I like kids, but it wasn't part of the vision
To think about them when I'm not in school.
It's a joy to see you light up when you get it
Assert yourselves, throw me back some flack
Its nice to see you come for extra credit
Even nicer when old students drift on back.
CHORUS
Do you know how much I miss you on vacation?
After constant working, always out of time
Though it may seem that I'm always out of patience
Do you know the emptiness you leave behind?
Thought I'd just be relieved at the year's end
That I'd be glad to see you on your way
But I want so much to see you all again
I'm reminded of old students every day.
I'm glad that everybody's not a senior
I love to see old students in the hall
We can catch up-I don't have to be the teacher
Or just smile, not use words at all.
CHORUS
Yes, I want so much to see you all again
So come on back, let's stay in touch always
Come on back, let's stay in touch always.
